Good4Utah: Prison Sales Tax Creates Political Controversy

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (GOOD 4 UTAH) A war of words is underway between Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker, and mayoral hopeful, Jackie Biskupski.

The bickering centers around finding a home for the Utah State Prison. Last week the Utah legislature passed House Bill 454, a bill that ties an increase in the cap on sales tax, to the relocation of the prison.

Monday, Biskupski spoke with media and claims Mayor Becker is behind it. Mayor Becker fired back.

“If you’re against having the prison in Salt Lake City, why would you put this tax you’ve been wanting so badly attached to the bill that relocates the prison to your city? said Biskupski.
